I've got a 97' crew cab. The truck is getting a little tougher to start. Once it kicks off i've got a knocking noise coming from the passenger side of the enging up by the pulleys. I've replaced the water pump, power steering pump, and all three idler bearings. The funny part is if you run it hard about 15 min it just up and quits like there was never anything wrong. I've run the engine with no belt and the noise isn't present, and i've run it with the belt on and no fan or fan clutch and it's still there. I'm figuring it's either the belt tension assembly freezing up. Any advice is much appreciated.
First you need to better locate the knock.
Get a short piece of garden hose about 3 feet lond and hold one end to your ear and the other end move around till you find the knock
***NOTE: Be careful not to let the hose get caught by the fan or belt. ***
