I have a 1997 F250 with a 5.8 (I know it's a 351, but I can't remember the actual name of the motor...)
With every OBD I've come in contact with, it's been an OBDII and the plug for the scanner has been under the dash on the driver side. With a quick glance, and extensive search, I found that I neither have a OBDII (instead I have an OBDI) and my scanner plug isn't under my dash. I tried to look it up in my manuel, and it said that, while most are under the dash, it may also be near the kick wall, under the glove compartment, or in the engine bay (eek!)
Sadly, I've searched the entire length of my truck and cann't find the plug. I even put my fear of the engine compartment in my pocket and searched. Other than getting a small chunk of hair torn out by my belt (not my smartest move), nothing really useful happened. I can't find it anywhere.
I even tried calling my local Ford dealer, and after getting transfered 5 times and ending up getting disconnected(), I decided to look up a Ford forum.
Welcome to FTE imfox! If I am not mistaken, your truck being a F-250 and a `97 model at that, it looks like a `96 model then the `97 model body. Thinking along this line of thought, you would be better to post this question in this forum where you will get more help with this question. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum28/ Good luck!
Oops, sorry about the misplacement.. (and you're right.. I have the 96 enginge with the 97 body.. don't know why, but that's how the factory made her ) Thanks for the link.
If I remember correctly the OBDII connector on my 96 with the 302, was in the middle of the truck at the bottom of the dashboard. Slide open the ashtray and run your hand along the bottom of the dashboard in that area and you should run into it. 96 was the first year for Mandatory OBDII, Pre 96 would be OBD1 or a speed density setup. Easy way to check is to look and see if you haver a mass airflow sensor.
