OK here you go.

Go to user CP and click that.
Then go to edit options.
As you scroll down the page here is the options I have selected.

Recieve email from administrators, checked
Recieve email from other users, checked

The next one, default thread subscription mode is probably where the pop ups are starting from.
I have "do not subscribe" in the drop down box.

The next box, private messaging

First box, enable private messaging is checked.
Recieve private messages from buddies and moderators only is not checked.
Recieve email notification of private messages is not checked.
Show new private message notification pop up is checked.

The next six selections are all checked no.

Next box, thread display options
Show signatures, checked
Show avitars, checked
Show images, checked
Next drop down is set to linear, oldest first
Next drop down is set to 40 posts per page
Next drop down is set to show threads from last week

Date and time options, eastern time zone for me
DST correction always on is my next selection
And my week is set to start on sunday

Last selection is enhanced interface full WYSIWYG editing

Now click save and your FTE will work just like mine does.

I think your popups are notifications to replies to threads that you are subscribed to.
I don't subscribe to threads, at the main forum page if I want to see any new replies I hit refresh page.
If you are on dialup, you may not want to check the show pictures box in the thead display box.

So that should take care of the second problem.
I can't do anything to help you on the first one, I have the same addiction.
This is a lot like AA though, at least I am inside talking about my truck instead of outside in the snow under my truck tinkering, so it could be worse..

It's addicting because of the PEOPLE on here.
I use a couple of Cummins-Dodge sites, an International site and a PowerStroke site and I just don't like the guys as well.
I can go for weeks without visiting them but I come on here almost every day.

All the kidding I get on here is light hearted, the Cummins and especially the PowerStroke sites have SOME great guys but they also have a few boneheads that ruin it for me personally.
I get tired of hearing how Dodges fall apart everytime you turn around. With one guy I just finally said my Dodge is just a big pile of crap mounded up around the motor so he'd drop it.
It's easier for me to get along on the Cummins sites though as they are always compared to the PowerStrokes and I really do think the Cummins is better. When they start raggin' on IDIs I have to set 'em straight.
I think actually owning and maintaining all three of them personally and not just having them at "work" or "my brother-in-law owns one" gives me a unique perspective. However others surely think it makes me an idiot. BUT I know how they are used, maintained, driven etc., intimately, which can rarely be said of a truck someone else ownes or you occasionally drive. The little things can make a big difference.

NONE of the other forums have the sense of humor or comroderie (however you spell it) that we have here.

Yeah, I havent been a member/IDI owner for very long but I see it. Its got to have somethiong to do with the kind of people that drive these ole trucks.
I mean this thing has got in my blood. I have a third problem. I wanted a Harley all of my life and finally got one about 4 years ago. Well the first year I stayed on the thing so much that I started fillin guilty for leavin the wife and kids at home so much. Weve got 2 kids of our own and foster up to 4 more and though she never uttered the first word of complaint I felt like selling the Harley would be the best thing to do. Well now a little over a year ago I happened across this truck (wasnt even lookin) and then it was on. The first proiblems I had, hard to start, trans, etc. (you know the drill) I googled 6.9 f250 and found this forum. Well yall probably heard me goin on about it in other threads but you guys got her up and goin for me. All I had to do is read (and look at pics, in some cases) and turn wrenches. Well the problem is I want to drive it as much as the Harley but the 15mpg @ $3.00 +/- is a little harder to justify than the 50mpg @ $2.00 +/- , nowatImean? Thanks Everybody. Merry Christmas. Daves; yall rock Catfish, Dodge, and I wish I could remember everybody else that answer the SOSs.

Dodge Cummins if I could buy a brand new 77 ford crewcab shortbed 4x4 with the cummins and 6sp that would be the last pu I would ever want.
My old partner bought a 93 dodge new I did all the work on it in 400000 miles I changed the fuel solenoid and the trans.
I roam around on other fte sites mainly 61 thru 79 because I like used and wore out several of these old trucks but the forums dont hold a candle to this one and that is a shame there is some good info but a lot of attitude compared to this one.
I think it is the mindset and common sense with the kind of people willing to maintain and drive these old trucks and the moderaters on this site are great people with a lot of knowledge and must truly enjoy helping people. Even if they do call us warped once and a while. I can't remember a thread that needed help that Dave S. didn't give some good info unless it was a slushbox problem and he still chimes in and tells them he has no experiance with the problem. Great site great people great help.

Yeah Dave S.'s only problem is he has that genetic Ford gene hard-wired into his DNA.
I know exactly what I'm talking about as my family passed on the Dodge gene to me. I guess you can't fight genetics.

Well that is because I know Dodges fall apart every time you turn around.
I have even seen a couple that will fall apart while going in a straight line, no need to turn around.

Did I get that right?

LMAO ROF SG
Now my stomach hurts I laughed so hard.

That is true. I'am a member on two more diesel sites besides FTE. I scan over all three almost everyday, but seem to spend twice as much time on this one.

well, i guess i'm a bad offspring because either i got some of both of the genetics (just bought a 3500 cab/chassis dodge, 2001 model and have two IDI f-250s, a 90 and a 91) or i'm just a true Ba****d at the root of it all.

BTW, dodge/cummins, is there a reasonably user friendly dodge diesel site where i can get info on the diesel i just bought? don't plan on having anything go wrong with it as it's only got 46K miles on it, but figure everybody will laugh if i ask you mopar questions on the FTE site. LOL

Try turbo diesel registry. I think they have a forum I've only looked at the classified.
We will even try to be nice to traitors.

thanx! don't really think of myself as a traitor, just wearing more than one hat right now. like the 250 more than the dodge, but got a deal on swapping a toyota tacoma for the 3500, a lance alaskan package slide in camper and a 20 foot gooseneck trailer. thought it hard to pass the deal up. BTW, who told you my middle name was benedict arnold?
