Helloooo out there, i have a 94 f-150 and the speedo will cut out like their is a short in the circuitry after i rap on the dash it'll come back on, This is an all electronic instrument panel.Anybody seen or delt with this before HELP!!!
The fact that it reacts to the vibration in the area of the display tells you that's where your prob is there. If your lucky its a corroded connector. But even more common is a poor quality solder point on the circuit board and less often, a hairline crack across the bourd 's circuit path itself. Radio sells a self adhering patch tape & correct solder as needed.hardest part is finding where the circuit drops out and that's simplified by a non-conductive spray that momentarily ID's dead spots when applied to circuits. Also radio shack.
In my case there were some components on the PSOM that had come lose and I have a good friend who is an electronics tech and he was able to test and re-solder for me. The alternative is you can find places on-line that will send you a new PSOM (I proced mine at $250) with the correct mileage already set if you fill out a paper stating you aren't lying about the mileage.
Unless you are in a situation where you have some extra time and a friend who can do this soldering for you, you are probably better off buying the PSOM. Check the other thigns first, like connections and things like that which were mentioned in the other post.
