i remember a while back some of you saying its best to start these ps diesels in the stock position then switch your dp tuner back to whatever setting your using. i understand its for easyer starting but what do the guys do that have sent there pcm in and had it flashed with say the 80econ setting. they cant return theres to stock to start there trucks. does it really hurt anything?

Having only the one tune, the only thing you can do is just baby it until it is up to operating temps.

Yeah ron, it's not so much about easier starting, it's about cylinder pressures getting high before the block and internals are warm. If it gets much below 60 degrees I try to drive in the stock setting until it has warmed up. I just got a remote start installed, so I won't have to worry about it too much.
going to work this morning i just thought about the guys with just one setting and what they did when it got cold. just wanted to make sure it wouldn't hurt anything.
I always let the truck run for a few minutes before taking off, then drive at least a mile before changing tunes. That may be overkill....but it's piece of mind for me
As a select few already know, I'm very "particular" with how I drive my truck. I have a ritual of how I do things.
If its below 60 degrees ambient:
I start the truck in the stock setting and I allow the truck to idle for 3-5 minutes. I drive the truck with kitten-gloves by keeping the RPMs as close to or below 2K as I can. When the oil temp reaches 100 degrees, I switch it to my 80 econo tune and drive it with the same kitten-gloves until the oil temp reaches 150 degrees, then drive it normally. At 180+ oil temp, life is good and anything goes.
If its above 60 degrees ambient:
I start up in the 80 econo tune and I allow the truck to idle for 3-5 minutes. I then drive it in the same steps as already stated.
