Curiousity is getting to me...
It's for sale and a person could probably pick it up for under 10k. I ran an oasis check and finally found out why he is having troubles getting rid of it... The last time it was through ford was mid last year and at that point it at a little over 170,000 miles.
Now on this website, there are some people that say they have had good luck with the '04 but it sure seems like there are not many that agree... Could this be a truck at least worth looking at and running through the local ford for a mechanical check or is it just a money pit? I know that hard to tell, but let's say all heck broke loose, what kind of costs would a person be looking at for repair?
Help me cure my curiousity!
thanks for any assistance!
If you bought it and the engine crapped out you can buy or build one to put in it and still be in a pretty nice truck for well under 15K if you did it on a budget. There are wrecked trucks out there and you can get a engine from a salvage yard for 2 - 3 K. If you do it right you could do the EGR delete, fix the headbolts (thats the weak spot on the early 6.0s), delete the EGR cooler.
But fact is there are 10s of thousands of the 03, 04, 05 ford diesels running around that have never missed a beat. I have an 04 Excursion that ran great and I loved it. I beat the crap out of that drive train and it never,,,, ever showed a weakness. Hit a moose with it and now its gone....... RIP
yes they have more problems statisticly, but they were still good trucks
