Project 86/ Spring Tire Question

Will the stock front springs on an 86 150 allow enough room for 31in tires without rubbing?

If not how high does it need to go? Not really looking to lift it much if I can get away with it.

Also I am going to flat bed this thing. But I am in search of some light weight options. Any suggestions? Every Flat bed I have ever built has been over engineered and way to damn heavy.

The should. The stock 235/75/15 are 29 inches. Two inches should not rub. It also depends on how wide you're going.

Hey, is the truck 4x4 or 4x2? This will help us all out. Plus the future people that search about this topic.

4x4

I wouldn't own a 4x2 let alone mention lifting it for a bigger tire. But that's just me. I can see how the correct info would be helpful though.

With a 10.5 you MIGHT rub a little bit. The rears will be fine, it will be the fronts when you go around a corner.

I think I'd try them. Depending on manufacturer they may or may not rub.

Alright I guess I can go get them mounted and give it a go.

If need be what about something like those 1-2 inch bushing type spacers that go under the spring? Will that toss the alignment out bad?

Stay away from spacers. They're more trouble than they're worth. They will likely kick the alignment out so bad it won't be drivable and the shop won't be able to get it close enough to be.

Glad you said that.

I got one tire on the front. Cleared fine. However the other side is going to require a spring replacement.

Sags a bit.

I called a junk yard and he said sure I got a set, 100 bucks. I laughed so hard while I told em they were 79.99 at Autozone New for a set.

He did not believe me but at any rate I have a set ordered.

I ran 31X10.50's on my 80 4x4 f150. With the stock wheels, they would rub the radius arm when I turned sharp in the parking lot. Not a big deal, you could hear it and feel it rubbing on the cleats through the steering wheel.

I then got a set of cheap chrome modular wheels 8 inches wide, and mounted the same tires on them. The were offset more and pushed the tire out farther from the truck, and they did not rub the radius arms.

I had an 80 bronco with 35/12.50's and no lift. The tires rubbed the radius arm and the tops of the fenders every time it hit a bump. A guy I used to work with had an 86 F-150 4x4 and ran 32/10.5 on 15x8's with minimal rubbing.
