I am looking into getting a new exhaust installed. I got quoted $320 for true dual straight pipes with two stainless 18 in. tips. Does that sound about right? Also, how do you think it would sound? By the way, it's on a 2001 F-150 5.4 V8.
That sounds like a good deal but do you really want to do dual exhausts, and do you really want them without mufflers? To me that would sound pretty raspy.
it would sound extremly loud and awsome my cousin has a 2001 with the same set up and it cracks really well u can hear him about 6 blocks away but u cant step on it in front of the police station they will ''love'' you for it and 320 sounds like a good price
It wont be to terribly loud, that is if you're planning on keeping the cats on it. That was a popular setup around the shop I use to work at. Although if your planning on running it with no cats and no mufflers its gonna be insanely loud, and you'll grow tired of it in a couple days tops.
The setup I described (straight pipes after the cats) on a 5.4 or 4.6 F150 reminds me a lot of the sound of glasspacks on a older truck. Deep rumble under light/moderate throttle, and loud rapping and cackles under full throttle. Some people don't like the sound, but I've always had glasspacks on my trucks so it sounded awesome to me.
320 sounds about right. We use to do that setup for 275, but that was minus the tips, that was about 5 years ago too. If its too loud for ya, or doesn't sound deep enough, then throw a 40 dollar set of glasspacks on it.
