Belt Sizes

Hi, I have a 1988 f-150, its two wheel drive and its got a 300ci six. Iv had thought to remove the smog pump, but im not sure what size belt to put back on the motor. I figured its worth a try to ask around first on the forum to see if anyone knows, befor going out and buying a bunch of belts to size them up. Thanks.

thanx,... yea, there isnt much to gain, but since it isnt even all connected, i might as well take it off.

Belts can be had in almost any size and are measred in inches most belt companies use a part number system that is like 15465 were 15 denotes width and 465 meens this belt is 46.5" long, thats if cut and stretched out. So the thing to do is to just cut your old belt, remove the pump, and then put the old belt in place and use it like a measuring tape cut it again where they overlap then measure how long it is. that's how long your new belt must be.

I'm pretty sure my '88 with that engine never had a smog pump, so they should be able to just look up the correct belt for an '88 without a smog pump.
