I posted last week looking for info regarding my fuel leak coming from the fuel heater assembly on the fuel filter housing. Well I dug into it this weekend and found after draining the canister and removing the standpipe that the heater element/ring was toast. I removed it and cleaned the bowl and fpr screen (thanks to the info posted on this site) it was full of crap and thought I would try and remove the heater assy without taking off the housing. Well it is very tight quarters and I could not figure how to get to it so I decided to remove the canister. Well I got the pass side mounting bolt off with a lot of force/breaker bar and then managed to crack a socket trying to get the other off. I sprayed it with penetrating lube, left it over night but no go this morning. I am afraid I will shear the bolt off if I put any more torque on it. So today I tried to get the heater assy off again and found that I needed to remove the water in fuel indicator probe before I can get the heater out. Takes a 14mm wrench and a lot of patients but got it out and heater assy came out as well. I tried to remove the electrical fitting on that heater probe but felt that either I was going to break the whole thing into pieces(plastic) or ruin the plug permanently. So I left it alone and reinstalled both fittings with some grease for the o-rings which looked okay and got the mother scratcher back together and tightened down. Fired it up and drove it around for a while and still have a seep around that heater assy! Not happy! Have ordered a new heater assy and am considering a new wiring harness in case I ruin the one I have. So my questions are to those that may know.
1. Any suggestions on how to get that filter housing bolt loose? I am sure I will need to get it off some day.
2. Any tips on how to get that connector off the heater assy without tearing it up? Seems simple but is a PITA.
Thanks guys in advance, this forum has a wealth of info.
To loosen the housing bolt I would remove the other one and get a six point socket preferably impact socket. you could give a small tug on the housing to see if it wiggles or helps to turn the stuck bolt. Other than that I would get and impact on it or a big breaker bar. An impact would be best and you could get a big hammer and a rod and tap on the head of the bolt to try to loosen it some. Vibration is your friend in this case.
