forged aluminum is almost or as strong as steel wheels (i think) but lighter, making them more expensive though, about $130 apeice as to where my chrome steel wheels were $75 apeice.
Was looking for info more to the science end of wheels,re; unsprung weight effects on suspension and steering as well as some percentage numbers on inertia comparison between the two types as well as wieght differences.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 12-Mar-02 AT 06:41 AM (EST)]Lighter recipocating mass. Easier to get rolling easier to stop, eaiser on the scrub. I doubt any benefits would be realized on a liffted truck running bigger than stock tires. For the truck enthusiast, aluminum wheels are built mostly for appearence and the fact that they are available in wider rim size, allowing to fit a wider tire.
In "race" setting obviously lighter is better, ask John Force, it all depends on your application and your needs. On our nascar asphalt modifieds we use a steel 15" wide wheel, we need the rigidity that a steel wheel offers(lots of bent lips). Aluminum would fatiuge sooner than a steel wheel in our application.
pretty much what I believed to be the case. Dont really think now that I will bother with this upgrade at this time. Not enough benifits to justify the cost THANKS FOR THE RESPONSE
