Weird small fuse

I've been going over the wire job that Mickey Mouse hack up. I ran a new wire straight to the battery for the cigarette lighter as i don't trust the wires under the dash. Anyway while i was connecting my fused wire to the battery i noticed several fused wires. I checked all the fuse and noticed one really small 4 amp fuse. This wire comes out of the wire harness and plugs into the small box next to the battery. This box also has the wire that runs to the starter. Anyway, any idea what this small odd 4 amp fuse powers? All electrical works except the ALT meter. Well, the ALT meter never moves so i assume its not working. I plugged a new 3 amp fuse (couldn't find a 4) but didn't notice anything working that hasn't worked before.

That small "box" is the starter solenoid. From the factory there were NO fuses attached to it. There was a fuse "link" which was a short piece of wire that would "burn up" and shut down electrical in the truck if it was overpowered. This fuse link would be on the battery side of the solenoid.

The soleniod usually has TWO small wires going to it. One actuated the starter(the key powered it), and this is usually the post nearest the battery side large post of solenoid. The large post had all connections for powering the truck, the other side went to starter only.

I know there is NOTHING worse then when "MICKEY MOUSE" has worked on your electrical..........LOL!!

This a glass fuse, correct?

Look on one end, there's a number stamped on it, like SFE-4, which was .62" long.

There was only one fusible link used on 1967/72 trucks as original.

It was first used in 1969 and was used in the alternator circuit.

C9AZ14526A .. Fusible Link-Wire Type Fuse-Use with 38, 45 & 55 amp alternators (alternator protection).
