Do you hear a click? Check fuses & so on. One thing I think wise is not to switch modes above 20-35 mph & never go above 35 in 4x4 low. After that, it comes to checking transfer case motor, fluid & the hubs. It's usually the case motor though.

It sounds electrical if you don't get a light, so as Matt has sugested, check any fuses and replay's. (check owner's manaul). Hubs shouldn't be an issue as in 01 they went with a direct system that doesn't have any kind of locking hub. With the truck being so new, we can rule out the t-case it's self. So 9 out of 10 times it will be the shift motor if it's not an electrical malfunction. Just to double check the shift motor, have someone lay undernieth the truck by the t-case and you turn the **** to listen for a click at the t-case. If there's no click, that means the shift motor is not trying to engage. So if thats the case, the shift motor is either bad or not getting power to it. Since you have no indicater light, it sounds like power isn't getting to the shift motor, therefore it sound electrical. When you getting the 4wd functioning again, engage the 4wd at least once a month in both ranges to keep it operating properly. Even if you just move it back and fourth in your driveway.
