LIFT HELP

Hi, I have a 96 f250 2wd which I am planning on putting a 6" skyjacker kit on. I was wondering if it is absolutely neccesary that I put longer break lines. Also, does anybody have any advice on what type of shocks I should get, I was leaning towards the rancho 5000s, the 9000s are a little too much. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Also, I hear all this talk about a pitman arm puller, what is that, is it some tool to remove the pitman arm? Do I have to buy one to install my lift myself? This will be my first instal so any advice is greatly appreciated.

also, I plan on putting a rear locker in my truck to get better traction when I do go offroad, are these very hard to instal, and will they affect my offroad ability alot?

thanks
~bob

Hey Bob,

Breaklines may not be necessary but HIGHLY recommended if your off roading.
The rancho 5000's are a good shock I bought them for my SD with a 6" lift, also I think skyjacker nitros are good.
YES you will need a pitman arm puller ,works almost the same as a pulley puller but the "arms" aren't hinged, it looks like a "U" with a big bolt in the middle that you crank down on. You may be able to rent one at an auto parts store.
As far as a rear locker goes , yes they are hard to install if you've never done it before, tolerances and backlash, etc, very important.
They allow your rear wheels to be "locked" together , so both wheels will spin at the same speed, not so good for street driving.

Im sure some more people will chime in to help.

Good Luck..

Skyjacker is a good choice. but it is nessesary for brake lines, i recommend skyjacker's stainless. My 95 needed them on a 4" lift, I could not get 2 1/2 inch blocks in the back of my truck w/o the extended line, fronts need them too, they are not that expenseive. 80 bucks for the cheap rubber ones but 120 for the stainless. Stainless makes a good size difference in stopping too, esp with bigger tires. If you are not going to re-use the pitman arm, i'd recommend cutting it off. Just have to be careful. Mines a 95 and i couldn't get the pitman arm off even with the puller, and i didnt need the stocker anymore so i just cut it off, much easier. Rancho RS5000s are a good choice, the RS9000 are slightly better becuase you can fine-tune them. I'm running ranchos and like them very much. A locker is very difficult to install, you need lots of experience. Better leave that up to the specialists.

Primary rig is:
95' F-150 EB 300/6 5 spd with 4" Superlift, MSD, Ram Air, Gibson Exhaust, 32" BFG Muds

Then theres:
88' F-250 Superduty 351 + c6
92' Thunderbird 3.8L V-6 FOR SALE!
95' Mercury Cougar 4.6L V-8
80' E-350 300/6 and a
3 spd column shifter baby.

The newest addition to the Ford family is a 99' Mustang GT 4.6L
