i have a 2001 Ford Ranger 4.0 L. i don't know too much about cars but i wanna know what i could do to it to make it faster and have better fuel economy. could anyone help me out?
Get your self a AEM brute force intake, a gibson dual sport catback exhaust and a bama engine programer. That should be good for 15-20 hp abd 20 foot pounds of torque. You can reach bama at bamachips.com.
A intake won't do anything for power or economy on a Ranger, it comes from the factory with a cold air intake. Just look behind the passenger headlight and there's the inlet tube. In fact if you replace it with a cone filter it will actually get worse as it will be heated be the engine.
The 4.0 is not what you would call a fuel economy motor, at best I get 15mpg. That's with a 4.0 and 32's with 3.73 gears.
A programmer is going to be your best bang for buck mod, I really like my Xcal2 it has 3 tunes that you can switch between at anytime. I have 87 economy tune, 91 octane performance, and 91 towing tunes.
