Here is my story I bought an 88 ford f350 dump truck that was driven with a bad cat. The guy took out the cat but the damage was already done to the heads. The exhaust manifold bolts holes were ruined and the bolt started popping out of the heads causing very bad leaks. So I bought it replaced the heads with used rebuilt ones. In the process of doing the heads I removed the air tubes and blocked off the egr with a piece of tin. The only thing I did not fix is the pcv hose it is dry and cracked. I have driven this truck about 900 miles and have noticed a problem and would like to fix it. when you feather the gas to take off the truck stutters. You have to rev it up to 1200 to 1500 rpm and let the clutch out to take off. This is a real pain when you go to back up you have to back up going 10 mph or it jerks the whole truck. It makes it sound like the drive shaft is going to fly out. Also when your driving sometimes when you let off the gas it will jerk the whole truck just like you shut the key off and turned it back on. The other problem is when you go down a hill at an idle it will slow down than speed up like a Jake brake. It will go 10-15 feet and hold back about stopped than it will go 6-8 feet like it should normally and than it goes back to holding back. It repeats this all the way down a hill or until you touch the gas. I would like to use this truck to plow snow but the way you have to back up I would have to put it in low range to back up slowly and keep the rpms up. Sorry for the long read but I want to give as much info as I can. I hope I can get these problems fixed soon. Thanks
The carb was jetted for the PCV to be there. Now your engine is too rich, especially at idle. If you are adamant in not replacing the PCV, which makes the engine run better by lowering the pressure in the crankcase and preventing oil from being blown out of the crankcase, try screwing in the idle mixture screws a quarter turn at a time until the engine runs better.
