difficulty?

hey,
im planning on lifting my 1995 F-150 4x4 sometime this summer (when i save up all that dough to buy a kit!) but my question is this: are they easy enough to do? we dont ghave lifts or anything, i dont know what all you need, just tools? is it worth it to take it down to the local tire/suspension store and get it done? can i handle this alone? and also, is it a weekend job? a day job? how long will my truck be out of commission? any info is much appreciated.

Hey Mike,

Lots of questions... I would say if you have to ask, it might be better to take it to a shop.
Seeing it's a 95, I'm sure you will need torches to make this job a lot easier. Last f150 I did took me about 4 hours, with a lift and torches and every other tool known to man.
Not something you want to get half a part in your drive way and not be able to finish.

I think the hardest piece on that lift is the front lowering bracket where the front axles pivot, if I remember correctly.
Pitman arm can be a pain sometimes also.

I suppose you could get by with some GOOD tall jack stands, a floor jack(or two) assorted wrenches and sockets, pry bar, breaker bar.
If your installing rear blocks or new rear springs, just cut the rear U- bolts and save some time, carefull not to hit break lines in the process.

I'm sure I forgot something, hopefully someone else will come along and add some info for you.

I'm 17 and i put a lift kit on my 2wd. Never needed the torch. I couldn't get my pitman arm off, needed to cut it off since i wasn't useing the stocker again. It is pretty easy if you take your time. I did mine in steps. I put in a 4" lift and needed brake lines so you will need them too. I put the lines in, then the rear lift. Drove that around awkwardly for a week and then took the truck off the road for 3 days (still in highschool) and ..overall took me about 10 hours to install the front. However, i'm a fairly slow worker i don't like to rush things. It really isnt that hard to install. A couple of things took two guys to give a hand, but it can be done with one person if they think creatively. It would cost, a lot, for a shop to install it, so think about it.

Primary rig is:
95' F-150 EB 300/6 5 spd with 4" Superlift, MSD, Ram Air, Gibson Exhaust, 32" BFG Muds
NEW PICS IN MY GALLERY!! :-)

92' Thunderbird 3.8L V-6 FOR SALE!

3 spd column shifter baby.

The newest addition to the Ford family is a 99' Mustang GT 4.6L
