I have a 79 f-250 4x4 which i have been drag racing for years...
I was planning on building another truck this year to race next year, but i dont think ill have the money to do that, It looks lie i will just be building a fresh new 400 for the truck and try to add about another 50-80 HP and another 50-75 ft-lbs.
I have been thinking about finding a good 2wd C6 transmission, and in the spring, installing the 2wd C6 into my truck to get rid of not only the weight of the transfer case, but to also get rid of the power i am loosing in the transfer case.
I have a shop who can build whatever length driveshaft i want.
My question is, would i be able to run a single piece driveshaft with a slip yoke on the transmission with no issues?
I really do not want to run a 2 piece thru a carrier bearing....
All i would like to know is if a one piece driveshaft would work with no binding issues.
I think once you hit about 60" of tube you have to go carrier bearing. Check with MPG Heads in denver area. Scott does good work with fords. He likes those cleveland heads and has cnc programs for them on porting. I personally run his stuff and it works. Just shoot straight with him. good input good output. His 400 fords makes close to 650 hrspwr with chi heads in denver, high elevation.
I don't run a carrier bearing but I also only have a short box. The two LWB trucks that run in Douglas both run carrier bearings and the drive shaft would be LONG with out it. just my .02 cents
If the 2 lwb's in Dougl;as run in the 12's with a carrier bearing i should be fine if i decide to go with one... maybe ill start looking for a lwb 2wd parts truck.
