When I put my truck in 4 wheel, there is grinding and when i take it out of 4 wheel, it seems like it doesn''t wanna release anything and there is more grinding. Trying to figure out what is causing this. I''ve changed the fluids in the transfer, front differencial, and added grease to the hubs. my truck is a 93 with a 4.9.
wheres the noise coming from? is it manual lock in hubs or automatic? need more info please. but im sure it has SOMETHING to do with the transfer case, just more info if you could
I can't quite tell where it is coming from, it almost sounds like from the front, but i've noticed that when i do shift from 4 wheel to 2 wheel, it tends to not come completely out of 4 wheel. sometimes when this happens, there is a loud bang, and then it seems to have come out of 4 wheel.
My truck is auto locking hubs.
sounds like your transfer case if there is a loud "bang" mine did this maybe 3 months ago after a hard day of trail riding, turned out the main bearing inside the transfer case was on its last day, and when i shifted to or from 4 wheel it banged like that, sounds like its slipping. fixing it was fun... let me pull up the video i made doing it and ill post it here for you.
you shouldnt have to replace the whole thing. but if you do i would suggest using your haynes repair manual if you have one, i wouldnt know off hand id have to dig into mine
