Offroad Package?

Offroad Package?
Hello,
Keeping in mind I am still new to thse wonderful trucks, I was looking at a friend's 94(?) or 96(?) who just bought an F150 as well. Anyway, he has dual front shocks on his truck, and it seems to be part of an offroad package. I guess my first question is: does this actually do anything for you? Second, if it does, is it possible to add them to my 90? I would assume/hope Ford would make it bolt-in job to make it easier on themselves, and maybe on me as well. And finally, what else is part of this offroad package?
Thanks!

Dual shocks were a factory option but I'm not shure if they were actually a part of an "off road" package. Dual shocks can be benificial on a truck that's modified for off road use. Large tires and wheels are much harder to control as their size and weight are considerably more than stock wheels and tires. The dual shocks allow you to keep larger tires under control. Here's a common misconception you'll want to avoid: if two is good then more is better. Sometimes you'll see show trucks w/ like 20 shocks on them. This is purely for looks as having too many shocks will make your truck ride terrible. I feel two in the front is plenty for up to a 38" tire or so.

Well, now that I know they would be at least somewhat beneficial, besides looking cool I guess, any info on adding them if it's possible? Keeping in mind I haven't looked into it too mcuh and it's really cold outside for me to go out there, lay under the truck, and think.
Thanks!

Another misconception when people go to 2 shocks from 1 is that they need 2 shocks of the SAME original dampening rate. UNTRUE! The dual shocks are not the same rate as the original single one. Dual shock kits usually are softer that the single stock one, which is why they have 2.
