If it was me I would attach a ground strap to the trunk (the photo you provided and attach it to the body of the vehicle plus, scrape a small amount of paint to allow the set attachment screw a good ground.
You have what is called a "Base Load" antenna.
The base should be mounted as high as possible on the vehicle.
A base load on a truck should be in the form of a magnetic mount for the ROOF.
Attaching a base load antenna so that the cab interferes with the signal is lowering performance.
Rules of Best performance:
1)Proper Match Antenna to radio(swr)
2)Proper and secure grounding of Radio & Antenna.(find un-painted metal)
3)The *LOAD* of the Antenna should be as High as possible on the Ground Plane. ie: roof mount
4)Know about your system > The Most powerful strength signal goes out the longest part of ground plane; ie: rear mounted antenna> The best signal goes out the Front of the vehicle(ground plane)<>antenna on the front of vehicle > the best signal goes out the rear of the Vehicle.
Center mounted antenna> The signal goes out the front and rear of vehicle equally
The signal out both sides is equal to each other.
I hope this clears up your question.
Dual-antennas are slightly different in performance.

Although it's been awhile, there used to be a real good CB shop at the Shell truckstop in Holbrook, AZ, and another one at Sapp Bros. truckstop (Exit 1) in Council Bluffs, Ia. I was just in Sapp Bros about a month ago.

Why would you want a piece of equipment you can't transmit over?
Trail Rider
It's legal for that reason.
I used to say " It's For the Convincing Break"
We have mountains in close proximity to Calgary.
In 5 years I had participated in at leats 7 search & rescue incidents for lost children, accident victims, lost animals, rescue of snowmobilers.
I have a 200 Watt Push & 400 watt pull Bi-Linear amplifier just for this reason.
That's why I have one.
