ok i need some info cleared up for me and a website would be very helpfull as well....standard old junk...years and characteristics of a "highboy" pickup....from my knowledge they are as follows.....
up to 1977 and not past
divorced transfercase
"big hub" dana 60 front end
3" wide front leaf springs and 2 1/2" wide rear springs
4" factory blocks under rear leaf packs
those are what i know, can someone help me out as to more info on years and characteristics. i.e. 1978/1979 or even 1994? just need to get some info set straight. thanks in advance for any and all info!
Gas tank behind seat.
I never seen a dana 60 in front of a high boy although I have heard they did. Most had the dana 44 with #3300 external hubs, although the smalled internal hubs are probably more common.
Rear frame width is around 34" wide.
Steel cross member across the front of frame between leaf springs, which you will see under the bumper.
Either a 360 V-8 or 6 cyclinder engine.
up to 1977 1/2
Power steering had the slave cyclinder set up.
Before 1976 had front drum brakes.
If you look in my gallery you can see some good pic's of the #3300 lb external hubs, and also the front diff is low pinion on the high boy, (drive shaft on bottom of diff) 771/2 thru 79 F250 high pinion, (drive shaft on top of diff) same dana 44 used in 1/2 ton and Bronco.
thanks UTFball68.....to my knowlege they didnt make the "highboy" after 77.5. but i have recently gotten into a pissing match (as iam sure we all have at least once) about a "highboy" being made in 78/79 and then 94 was thrown in there. witch threw me way off. now i have seen and owned a f-250 HD that isnt badged that has 1ton suspension under it witch i guess could be mistaken for the name "highboy" mine was an 87 and the only way i found out about the heavier suspension was by decoding the vin#. anyway any info on this matter at hand is much appreciated.
yes the 78 and 79 didn't have the blocks in the back so they sat about 4 inches lower than the 73-77.5 F250 4x4s.......thus the name "highboy". in your conversation I have no idea where 1994 came from.
What about the bumper brackets, or mounts, or however the bumper is attached on the Highboy versus the other Ford trucks of the same vintage, including the F350?
Anybody have any pics of the bumper mounts?

I have a 79 F350 - I can get you pictures of the mounts if you still need them.
The Highboy debate will go on forever. True Ford s like you will find on this board, can spot a true highboy from probably a 1/2 mile. Most people like to use the highboy name as a way to help sell a truck. Again as I am sure has already been covered their has never been a highboy package offered by Ford. It is just a nickname that guys came up with to distinguish the early 77's from the later 77's. I have seen guys with 79 F150's selling them as highboys, hell their was even a highboy Bronco being sold on ebay at one time, and the guy swore up and down that it was a package from Ford and that he could prove it.

just my 2 cents.
Yep, I'm going to need to know till I get a bumper. My Highboy had the wrong setup on it and was bent big time so I scrapped it. Look closely at my avatar and you can see it has a 78-79 bumper on what is definitely a Highboy chassis.
Apologies for the semi-hi-jack.
Highboy is a name enthusiasts have given 67-72 and 73-77 1/2 F250 4WDs, much like "Bumpside" and "Dentside".

Well actually the four inch block was put on other year trucks factory the key was the numbr of springs in the spring pack, 5 ply to 9 ply the blocks can be identiffied as factory if they had the horn facing inward.
