Question What's in an Engine ?

Hope everyone is having a good Thanksgiving...and for our non-U.S. members...a nice Thursday !

I've done some cursory searches and I'm not finding what I'm looking for. I'm wondering what the difference is between the standard 5.8 and the 5.8 Lightening ? I can see that the intake is different, but beyond that, I don't know much.

<OThanks !
<OPics will follow once I get it cleaned up a little better...

I checked the 'Engines' forums; the 'Ford Lightening' truck is different from the engine of the same name.

Thanks for the reply !

The main difference is the intake and exhaust manifolds. It MIGHT have gotten GT40 heads. But that's about it. They were pretty much just a custom tune in the computer.

You can even post in the 87-96 truck section as there is a fem members in there running lightning style engines.

Lightning 5.8 engine top end was GT 40 intake,GT 40 heads with headers, engine was built for higher RPM torque and horsepower. Check National Lightning Owners Club for forums and more info. Ford also sold complete GT 40 5.8 and other engine combos in their Ford Motorsport SVO catalogue.
