I got a new brake line kit, (all hard lines) from master cylinder to proportioning valve to all 4 wheels. One of the reasons for the kit is it is leaking from the proportioning valve pretty bad. Like, puddle under the truck bad. Should I replace the Proportioning valve with the lines? And after I get all of the lines on do I just bleed all of the brakes like I would regularly or is there a special way to do this when replacing all of the lines?
Thanks
yes replace all of it, to make sure there will be no more leaks, i would recommend doing the master cylinder while your at it too, just make sure you bleed it from the passenger rear wheel and move your way up, and when your all done, jack the truck up start it and make sure it all works.
I think the proportioning valve will be fine. There is a procedure for bleeding the proportioning valve, I do not recall it exactly, it differs from half tons and 3/4 tons. On one you have to push the little metal thing in that sits inside the plastic, on the other model, you have to pull it out (all this while you are bleeding it...) Return it to its natural state once finished. If you don't do it, the proportioning valve may/will cut off brakes to one side. Once the system is bled, if the pedal does not immediately get hard, you still have air someplace. Some people like to gravity bleed brake systems. Some like vacuum pumps, I personally prefer a power bleeder. The parts houses (in the help section) also sell one way valves that replace your bleeder screw. You crack the new bleeder valve, pump your brakes, close the bleeder screw. With this, all you do is pump and you are done.
