I have a 1989 F159 4X4 with quad shock settup on the front. I am finishing up complete rebuild of the front axle (bushings, u-joints, springs, bearings, seals, lockouts etc.) and want to finish it off with some good shocks front and rear. I know sky is the limit in this area too. With six shocks to replace it can get expensive really fast. I don't offroad much (occaisional hunting trip) and mostly pavement. Want good ride but long for the firmness that the truck had when new. How extravagant do I need to get considering the quad settup up front? Can I overdo it and end up with the ride of a lumberwagon? Have considered the Rancho RSX or RS5000. Also the Gabriel GasRyder LT's which are more economical. Any suggestions?? Any other good shocks out there for my application??
Skyjacker makes a good shock, also bilstien.
If you do mostly street driving, I wouldn't go with to stiff of a shock, considering your running two up front.
I run one skyjacker nitro and one superlift shock. The nitro does the work and the sl shock is so soft it's there mostly for looks.
I just replaced all the shocks on my '89 Bronco with Gabriel LT's and suprisingly enough its a pretty firm ride. I too have the quad shock set-up which naturally gives the truck a little stiffer ride. It handles corners, and rolling bumps very well. The only draw back is that you feel every sharp edge bump in the road, and the truck will wander on washboard surface dirt roads. But at only $29 each i cant complain.
I have Monroe Gas Magnums on my truck and it sees off-road all the time and never had a problem and they do make them for lifted trucks
i have also tried Rancho and edelbrock and all kinds of others but the Monroes have actually given me the best performance and get this I sell all the others and are happier with the monroes
