Good day all, I have a 97 expy 4.6. I thought the heat from the heater could have been hotter so I started checking stuff. Heat from the ducts are about
112 deg in the front and about 120 in the rear. Gauge reads ok for temp. Hoses and thermostat--OEM ford were changed about 2 years ago. Just checking stuff I noticed the lower hose was cool to the touch, the top hose was pretty warm. Except for what I think is the heat not hot enough I dont have a problem, again I dont drive it alot as it's my wifes suv. Anyone out there offer any ideas??????
Thanks a bunch.
The air temperature blowing out of the middle vents should not be less than 40 degrees below the engine coolant temperature. So if the engine is fully warmed up at around 190 degrees, the air temperature should be no less than 150 degrees. Plus or minus a few degrees. If you're only getting 112 degrees, then yes, something is wrong. It could be a restricted heater core, or maybe the blend door isn't going all the way over to heat.
