Those late 70s Lincolns had lots of class! Very sweet cruisers if you can afford to feed the 460. Enjoy!
Head over to www.lincolnsonline.com for everything you ever wanted to know about your Mark V. It's an excellent site. I have 3 Mark VIIs and that site is pretty much my "home base" on the 'Net
Thats awesome!!. I love lincolns, not like your gonna do this, but if I had one I would make it into a drag car. Slicks and everything. It would be somthin different out there. lol
Ken, I took it in jest...I have promised my buddy that we will go get some fuzzy "Pimp hats" to drive around with. 101, I love the VIIs' the best-however they still cost money or are all whipped out; maybe one day I'll find a late 80's version w/the monochrome treatment in black or that metallic red (I did score a set of 16" alloys from one in the 'Pull-A-Part' for adapting to my '69 Valiant 2-dr sedan). Svets, it would take tons of cash to do that and I can't do it...I do like the sick sense of humor it takes to think of doing that, kinda like those Canadians who made a rocket powered one to jump over the St.Lawrence Seaway in the late '70s'. It was bright yellow, got to the end of the ramp where the "Impressive" aerodynamics helped it to disintegrate immediately and plummet into the water.

Yep, I have a soft spot for the real "Hot Rod Lincoln", the Mark VII (and VIII, later on), but that Mark V is nothing to sneeze at. Cruise it proudly! Those cars are like driving your Barco-Lounger and they will get you where you're going in a real hurry if needed!
I don't know how old you are, but if you never knew mid-late 60s HP in big cars, that 460 in your Mark V will wake you up! It isn't a powerhouse by 60's standards (or light car/big motor Mustang standards), but it's a torque monster by todays "big car" standards. It will pull your butt right back into those cushy seats under full throttle. It's all in your perspective.
My 33 year old brother recently drove my 85 Mark VII LSC, with it's massive 180 HP, 5.0 CFI motor (snort, snicker). He was amazed that a ~5000 lb car was so "fast". (his perspective) He had never felt "real" HP and torque in a heavy car before, his first car was an 85 S-10 PU.
I grew up driving 390-428 Galaxies, Torinos and Thunderbirds. That 5.0/CFI Mark VII feels kinda "wimpy" from my perrspective.
If your Mark V predates your Teens, you are in for some fun with that 460, along with some great cruising in that big ol' Lincoln.
Take care of it. And, most of all, Enjoy!
I posted a heads-up in the 1970's Conti forum at Lincolns On Line to let then know you might drop in. Go ahead, they're expecting you.
I had a '71 Chrysler 300 coupe that was originally the owner of Richmond (in BC, Canada)Chrysler's personal car...at 90MPH the pitch of the 440 would change and it would BURY the speedo needle. Have no clue what they did to that car, but it was one **** hauling, 18' 9" barge. 101, I will be dropping in over there, so thanks for laying out the welcome mat. Oh, by the way- I am just about to turn 40 if you were truly wondering how old I am!
i had a 75' torino ex. state police car with a 460 engine, c6 trans. it had a calibrated speedometer that i belive went up to 140 mph. that car was fun!
one time i was on the mass. turnpike on a windy day and was going about 125 mph and the front of the car started lifting up (not very aerodynamic)
a buddy of mine borrowed the car and wrecked it.
also had a 66' gallaxy 7 litre (428) that car was a powerhouse for sure.
just recently sold it to a friend to make room in the garage but the old big blocks are a blast and a lot of fun to drive and sound great wide open throttle!!

The 66 7Litre is one of my all time favorites! I had 2 of them back in the 70s-80s (at different times) when they were just "used cars". A Red Automatic and a Black 4 speed. Boy, I sure do wish... They're pretty rare today.
I'm partial to 60's Galaxies, but there's something about the 66 that just says "badass" to me.
Just got a set of the 'DOVE-C' heads and the intake at the "Pull-A-Part" for about $80; if I can't get much for them, might just have to pop 'em on the old 460!
Lets put it this way, I owned a '79 LTD and a '91 Grand Marquis. They share the same body. The were bigger than most SUVS. I loved those cars. The '79 had a 351w/2bbl in it and it would flat out fly. That was until I baked the motor.
Hey, does a '77 Ranchero and the Mark V share the same chassis/frame? Just got a 'heads up' on '77 Ranchero GT in a yard, wondered if they shared the same chassis/frame/suspension bits. The GT has front and rear swaybars and a limited slip!
