I have a 2002 4.6L got a lean bank one and a misfire code on #1 cycliner and low rpm misfire, changed the coil and all the plugs drove 10 miles codes came back thought maybe a factory bad and had the parts store replace it again codes came back what else will set a lean bank one and misfire code, low rpm misfire. Also was told bank one is on the left side looking at the motor/ passenger side and bank two is on the right side/drivers side if this is right then i changed the right one if not then i'm chasing my tail by changing the wrong coil.
I just had a misfire code on my #4 cylinder, and had to replace the COP. From my reading on this site I believe the #1 cylinder starts on the passenger side front and works its way to the back 1 thru 4 and then starts at 5 on the drivers front and goes from 5-8 front to back. Going from memory here.
I would try switching one with another and see if the code changes positions. I had coil 8 go while half way across Canada on a hunting trip and the ford dealer in Saskatoon did exactly that. They swapped it into the #1 position and then it changed to #1. And there are postings on here for firing positions but i believe astone is correct.
Bank 1 is the right hand/passengers side, from front to rear cylinders
1 - 2 - 3 - 4
Bank 2 is the left hand/drivers side, again from front to rear cylinders
5 - 6 - 7 - 8
Your lean code could be caused by a vacuum leak, it's a pain to do but check all the rubber connectors between the vacuum lines and the nipple they slip on to. Good luck.
new info replaced the #1 cop and injector still will set a misfire cyl 1 and low rpm misfire if i plug the wire in a cop and plug i can see the plug fire if i plug the injector wire to a out side injector it clicks but still when running that cyl sets codes the vacuum gauges reads 16 steady if i unplug the injector or the cop there is no change in engine vibration on the others if i do that it gets worse moved cops, injectors, plugs around and it's always #1 need ideas before i set this thing ablaze.
Subbing an injector other than the original left in place is no test that proves any more than the PCM will operate the test injector.
What most likely is happening is the original injector is plugged or inoperative.
No fuel injected make the cylinder pump just air.
The OX sensor detects this in addition the crank position sensor also detects a slow down when that cylinder does not add it's power to the total when compaired to the rest. You see the crank position sensor measures rotation time of the crank and detects when a cylinder is down or out. This is how the PCM 'really ' knows what cylinder it is in the "time domain".
You can get fooled by the simple approch to troubleshooting.
Your dealing with total computer control and must understand these things or have a lot of luck.
Try changing the injector. It' easier than the plug in most cases.
If this is the problem, both codes will go away.
