Running Rough
Had the shop that does my monthly(seems monthly) suspension repairs check for any codes, they said there were none. Check engine light isn't on.
Does the 2000 V10 provide codes for cylinder missing, lean mixture ect.?
Maybe they used the wrong scanner? (Not an engine shop.)
If feels like a cylinder is missing. No loud noise or tapping, so I don't think its a plug backing out or spit out, but I haven't checked yet.
It has sat for a couple of weeks do to gas prices, but with them down I can afford to drive it again but it's running like crap.
Does this year use the COP?
Is there an inexpensive scanner I can purchase?
Can you point me in the right direction?
Where is the engine on this thing???????
When does it run rough? All the time? Just under load? At a particular RPM/throttle setting?
Always rule out the simple stuff first and use something to treat the fuel to ensure the fueling system is clean. I like Seafoam or Techron.
Check for vacuum leaks, check your air filter (Saw one that a mouse had camped in for a while: MESS!).
Alas, buy a COP and play round robin with it until the miss is gone.

Our new Ford COP’s, the Sultans of Spark(S.O.S.), have
been designed with both durability and performance in mind.
Please see them at:

Quality was the main feature we stressed when we went to the
drawing board on these coils.

I'm going to change the plugs first.
How do you get to the back plugs?
How do you get a torque wrench back there?
I need to get a set of small metric sockets first.
It looks like the bolt holding the COP in place is a 6mm.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
Get a universal joint, extension and deep socket to get to the rear plugs. If you're back there for #7 you might as well change 8, 9 & 10. There are a number wof threads addressing doing the plug on the V10 down in the V10 forum. have you found any to read yet?
And FTR, when I said a bad COP won't throw a code, I meant that it wouldn't light the CEL. *sheepish grin*
Still got the missfire on 2 and 7.
Replaced the coils on 2 and 7, (jeez, that got easy), runs like a champ.
I'm going to stop at Autozone to check for codes one more time, just to make sure.
Changing plug 5 (left side, last one) is a chore.
They should put in an access panel from the glove box.
I couldn't be sure if I was changing the last plug or changing the left rear brake light.
I bet my neighbors were chuckling, seeing my legs sticking out from the engine, all covered in snow.....did I mention it's still snowing here? Probably won't stop till April.
