I have a 88 F-150 with a 300 motor. I am about to buy new tires. The size that is called for is 235/75/15. I would like to get a wider tire. when i talked to the sales rep about it he said that in order to get a wider tire that I would have to also get a taller tire. He said that it would be about an inch taller. how much would this extra inch affect my gear ratio. I currently have 3.55 gears. I occasionally use the truck to haul loads and I am worried that this will hurt my performance. what do yall think.
also what would the next larger size tire be?
Your 235 tire i think it about 29" tall. You could step up to a 31 by 10.5 wide tire which will fit...or even a 32 by 11.5 inch tire, but it might be hard to clear a 32. With either tire, you will not see a power problem with 3.55s. I have 32s on 3.55s and it works fine.

80' E-350 300/6 and a

The newest addition to the Ford family is a 99' Mustang GT 4.6L
I measured my tires today and best I can tell, they are a little over 28 inces tall and about 9 inches wide. what would be the next size up from theese tires be? how big ,or wide, can I go with these rims.
the next size up would be 30x9.5x15. but personaly i would go with a 31x10.5x15. it makes the truck look better i had 31s on my 89 and it looked pretty good and could 4 wheel pretty good. i think it puts the speedometer off by 5 miles and hour at 65 mph.if you still want your speedometer to read accuratly, just call or go to your local ford dealer and tell them u put bigger tires on your truck and you want a new speedometer gear to compensate for the larger tires.
