The other thing to look out for is the fact that the mounting bolts are a bit different. The earlier style bed uses 8 regular grade 8 carriage bolts. However, the 87+ bed will use 6 bolts, and either 2 or 4 of them use an elliptical shank on the bolt to lock it in. However, you can just go to the hardware store and buy the grade 8 carriage bolts and they will work, you just might need someone to hold the top of the bolt so it doesnt spin on you.
I have a 1993 bed on my truck. I used the bolts that came with it of which there were only 6 compared to 8 used on my original bed. Bolted up like it was supposed too.
Hey, will a door from a 93 fit on an 84? What about the hood from an 87? What does it fit?
You should know the answer to that yourself, Stosh. Even though we all know that you personally are NOT "a fan of newer parts on an older truck," I suspect that even though the vent windows are shaped different, the newer doors will fit fine on an older model, considering that is what is on your own frankenstein truck.
