Red flag items in an OASIS?

Hey guys. I am curious as to what codes or keywords you would consider as a red flag (a no-no to a buyer). I would assume the usual leaks and computer glitches, and a big one would be the head gaskets. Anything else?

How about a replaced fuel pump?

I would generally consider replaced parts as normal maintenance - batteries, coils (for a gas), pumps, etc. It would depend on the miles though. Ive got 86K on my silverado and its had replaced parts of those sorts. However, for 20k and a diesel would a similar list be bad?

I just don't want to get stuck with a bad egg. The only thing that catches my eye is the fuel pump. Other than that, batteries and a dipstick LOL.

Repeat entries on the same/similar problem would be one red flag, for sure. Anythign really major would have me concerned. A lone fuel pump wouldn't seem bad enough to be scared off. Now if it was 3 fuel pumps....

I don't know diesels though. Why don't you post the OASIS and see what feedback you get?

Fuel pump is no biggie. Look for things like recurring electrical and / or electronic problems, excessive reflashes, turbo problems, head gaskets. These seem to be some of the biggest trouble spots and like another poster said in another thread, the recurring electrical and electronic problems seem to be the hardest to get permanent fixes for.

Look for things that would be a bad thing if repaired like head gaskets. Who knows what the owner did - overheat it severely enough to blow the head gaskets? Or was it that they went "normally" and Ford fixed it the RIGHT way without causing any other issues to the engine?

Some people look at that kind of work as a bad thing, it's possible it's a GOOD thing because the issue was taken care of.

For instance, I wouldn't WANT a 2003 6.0L that didn't already have the head gaskets (and studs/bolts) done

It's a toss-up, really... but like powerstroke said, repeat issues is something to look out for.

ESPECIALLY work that's been done just before it was put up for sale.

Well I think I am in good shape then. No repeats, the only relatively large item is the fuel pump. No mention of leaks or other problems at all. Theres a total of 3 items on the OASIS - battery replacement, broken/replaced dipstick (both same day, earlier this spring), then the fuel pump on the 6th of Nov. Nothing worth posting, not extensive enough.

Funny thing is, the truck was towed in for the pump replacement on the 6th and I found it around the 20th of this month. I just think the guy that had it before said "F' it" and got out. His loss, my gain! (that is if I end up with it).

I guess I should mention it is a 2006 350 DRW King 4.10 6.0L FX4 Crew Copper/Pueblo Gold with matching running boards. about 20,500 on the miles.

That sounds like a pretty good unit. Low miles and nothing major.

But back to your question. Head gaskets on an Oasis for a 6.0 would not worry me at all. It's just par for the course and if repaired properly you'll be better than new. The warranty issue that scares me away is anything electrical, particularly harnesses and control modules. The electrical stuff is too hard to properly diagnose and the issues tend to return.

Just for the hell of it, heres the data from the pump fix:

EDITTED by moderator - can't post OASIS reports - copyrighted material

CODE P0232, AND CONT CODES P0232, P0263, P0269, P0275.

Any idea what the other codes in there are?

Codes are defined here:
https://www.ford-trucks.com/article/...sel_Codes.html

P0232 is the failed fuel pump. The others are contribution faults, and I think would be caused by no fuel.

Well, it looks like Mike Dorian took good care of you. Have you owned it since new? That's a heck of a lot of issues, even though some are fit and finish things.

No, not the original owner. Company just bought it for a replacement for my Scurge as our plow truck. I think the owner was a picky person.

Sorry guys, I had to edit out those OASIS report results. The OASIS report is copyrighted material and CAN NOT be posted here.

According to my post in the OASIS request thread:

I would say it's the frequency of a repair, or the overall timeline of repairs. I.E> Let's say it have several repairs done but the last one was over 2 years ago (check mileage logged against current mileage). A repeating EGR problem, last work within 6 months of current date.
