Tried to replace the external filter for the Torqueshift transmission on my 06 today but the filter housing would not budge. Decided I would run it up the road to warm up the fluid and the housing to see if this would help as the outside temp was in the upper 20's today. Still could not budge it but the drive helped my strength as I did shear the 22mm hex head on the bottom of the can clear off (nice!!). Luckily it did not crack the housing so I'm still on the road. Going to wait until I can get another housing or assy. but curious if anyone else had similar problems getting these off or a method to get these off easier...
I just bump mine with an impact. Ive tried to get it off with just a socket and ratchet with no luck. It was starting to rip off the frame so I stopped.
Thanks for the info...I thought of using the impact but thought that I could do damage to the white pot metal housing, low and behold I did it anyway with the ratchet! Should have went with my first instinct...shoulda coulda woulda... It will be an adventure getting the housing off now!!
did the exact same thing 6 months ago. bought a new one and used a little neverseize on it and am abought to take it off as i service the tranny every 6 months.hope it comes off easier this time.
I would also like to know the price and part #. had dealer do my flush and filter change at 30,000 just after i had the tranny recall for the rev. gear. I am due again and i noticed half the nut is broken off. Gotta love it, figured i would get the new case and give it to the dealer when they flush it.

I second that (both parts). It takes a light touch with the impact to do it, so don't start out like you're pulling rusted suspension parts off here. A light blip or two and it should come free.
I also just changed mine and had a heck of a time getting it off. I was lucky to not break anything it sounds like. I am glad to see a couple of new ideas to try next time when it comes off so hard. I also would be interested in the price of a new cover. Thanks
mine came off at last tranny service at the dealer but they did a lousy job cleaning the aluminum threads and all it does is weep fluid. I have a new o ring and I am going to try that if that fails then FTE PARTS guy here I come
