Anyone else ever had a stinking oil cooler bolt break off due to corrosion between the bolt and the aluminum cooler housing.
I was removing the cooler on my engine to replace the seals and put new gaskets while I have everything out and the longest bolt on the rear section above the oil filter mount wouldn't budge, it was the last one I has to take out too. The bolt was loose in the block because I could rotate the entire assembly and bolt with no problem.
I soaked it in PB with no luck and when I finally tried again the head broke off. I had to end up drilling down about an inch before it would come loose and then it was still a fight to get what was left of the bolt to slide through the hole as I was gettin the cooler off.
It was a constant fight trying to keep the bit from going into the soft aluminum but I finally got it and got the stinking thing off there.
Has Anyone else had this problem?
I would try a liberal dose of antiseize on the new bolt. I have not had this problem with the oil cooler but it is common with a steel bolt and aluminum parts.
