Problems with doors not unlocking

This truck is new to me, 05 F250 FX4, and I can't find anything out in the manual for the door locks. When I put this thing in drive all the doors lock but when I park and shut the truck off the doors don't unlock. Is there a way to set them to unlock when the truck's either put in park or shut off?

I haven't found anything either. Kind of stupid not to put it on a $45,000-$50,000 truck IMO. I've read the manual cover to cover and found nothing. Checked what I could find on the net but it appears it wasn't a feature on the '05-'07 trucks. Don't know about the '08+ models.

Usually, all Ford doors open just by opening from the inside even when they are locked.

Did they do away with that "feature" ?

My '01's doors unlock when I open them from the inside.

The doors unlock when I hit the unlock button but I am referring to when you shut the ignition off don't they automatically unlock? My Excursion use to. They automatically lock when I put the truck in drive.

This bothers me about Ford products, too-- Why not have a setting that auto unlocks when the transmissio is put in park? But there is a way to disable the auto lock||manual unlock feature, and it is buried in the manual somewhere, because I changed the program.

In my manual, the procedure is outlined under the heading, "Deactivating/activating the autolock feature," and is found on p. 62.

I do believe Ford did away with that feature to combat outside entry when mall parking and assult/theft became such a big issue. You park, shut off the key and look around before you open/unlock the doors.

+1

Takes a second to lock the pistol up on the glove box, since malls typically don't allow CCW even with permit.

I have that issue with a mall by me. I just think about what I was told by my CCW instructor. "Don't ask, don't tell".

But even without unlocking the door, can't you just pull the handle and it opens anyway?

All the Fords I've ever owned do that, unless they changed something after 2001.

Yes, the drivers door does. But we have a spoiled issue. When I get out I go to open one of the back doors to get my youngest out and the darn doors is still locked.

Exactly. I have the same problem trying to get my kids out. I did notice in the '09 order guides that it's standard on the FX-4 level and up.
