4x4 swap

Well, I got a hold of a 75 4x4 for 200 bucks!

It's an F250 lwb like my 66, it has a 390 backed by a c6.
I am planning on doing a frame swap I would really like to keep my T-18,
I like being able to shift my own gears instead of aiming my truck in ever
which direction .
(know I'm gonna catch some for that)

What will it take to keep my T-18? anything extra?
Also I know that the cab will switch over pretty well.
And that the bed will need some creative engineering,
But I know that picking the brains around here keeps my truck running.
Thanks!

Ford never factory installed a 390 engine with 4WD.

The 4th digit of the VIN is the engine code.

1975: Only two engines were available: 300 I-6 (B), or the 360 2V (Y).

On sale day, 360 engines magically become 390's.

The only way to tell what size the engine is without tearing it down, is by measuring the stroke.

360 = 3.50" / 390 = 3.78"

Scifi266, You didn't say what engine your 66 has, but if it is a 352 or other FE it will be a direct bolt up on the front end. It will likely call for a new drive shaft length, for a couple hundred bucks.

I have found over the years these ol Fords can shift their own gears pretty reliably.

Thanks jo My engine is a 390 out of a cougar.
Thanks ND, I've learned that from personal experience;
We had a 71 f250 we thought had a 390 that turned out to be a 360, It was my gramps truck
that he bought used in 76. What a salesman will say for a quick buck is sad.
I've asked the po and they said they did a transplant about 5 years ago, so thats how I know.

I was still wondering how would I connect my T18 to the transfer case?
Or would i need to hunt the pnp for another t-18 or np435?

The transfer case may be a divorced unit. In my brothers 72 the transfer case is mounted seperate from the transmission. A short drive shaft connects the two. If this is the case it will be easy to keep your manual transmission. A shortend driveshaft is all it will take. The crossmember may need to modified but I would not think it would be severe.

My 65 is this way as well.
