weird screetch noise

hi guys/girls I have a 2005 superduty 5.4 4x4 6 speed

this afternoon i went out to go to get a movie for me and my boy to watch.

I started the truck put it in neutral and let out the clutch,(fairly quickly).

I heard a sort of a loud screetch. like a loose fan belt or powersteering at full lock. The noise lasted about 1/2 second then was gone.

I've had the truck for 1 yr. it has 35'000 miles. I've never had anything weird happen with it before..

I'm not really too worried. I was just wondering about it. anybody know what that was?

Thanks John

Could've been the input shaft bearing. I'd check the trans fluid

Never seen good results with belt dressing, but it is hard to tell if its a belt without hearing it

But I say try the belt first, it's the cheapest option.

It was for sure not a belt. It was a similar type of sound though. High pitch. not really a metal to metal sound either. As soon as the clutch came out 3/4 of an inch it started, the noise was basically done by the time the clutch was fully up.

I was trying to describe the type of noise. It definitly came from the transmission area.. the door was open, and it came from underneath somewhere.

It had been parked for 3 days prior.

I am fairly mechanical I've rebuilt several motors and changed axles/clutches before. But, this is my first superduty, I was basically just wondering if there is a common glitch or problem area to be aware of..

just to clarify the truck was parked,,,in neutral so,as soon as the transmission was first spooled up it happened. I let the clutch out faster than normal (especially for being around 20F) without warming up.

The truck still works fine, doesn't make noise. Do these have dual mass flywheels? like the older diesels?

Thanks again.. btw the oil is topped up, I checked it tonight.
