I'm having a heck of a time getting this thing to start. I only hear the starter relay click when I turn the key to the "start" position. Starter does not engage.
-Both batteries are newer and load tested good.
-New starter relay
-Cleaned all connections at batteries thoroughly and even stripped 1/2" of insulation off to have clean bare copper under the battery connector straps.
I'm in the process of cleaning all the connections at the starter, but they do not look bad to begin with since I just replaced the starter with a new BOSCH starter less than 1 yr ago. Next I will clean both engine grounds.
Try giving your solenoid on the firewall a tap with a screwdriver and if that doesn,t work get someone to help you get them to turn the key and you get under the truck and tap the starter with a hammer.
I know you said everything is new but you never know you could have got some bad parts
I tried tapping both the starter and relay with no luck. Once I've cleaned every possible battery, starter, relay and ground connection, if it still does not start I guess I'm looking at another new starter. I find it hard to believe that a 1 yr old $380 Bosch starter would go bad though....
First off is the click you hear comming from the starter relay, the starter or the glow plug relay........second take a test light and make shure your getting 12 volts out of the solinoid on the fender than check for the same at the starter ....also check the battery termanal at the starter not only on the battery cable but also on the stud......than report back
Guess what - It was the starter...and it was just out of the 1 year warranty. My $380 Bosch starter died at 13 months, just 1 months past it's warranty. I'm SOL. I replaced it with a $200 reman from NAPA with a 3 yr warranty and it has never started faster.
Every connection associated with the batteries or starter is either new or clean as new. If that was what caused the starter to fail it is no longer an issue.
