no headlights!

THe headlights went out the other night on my 81 F150. I figured the dimmer switch was out cause I still had brights but no lows. I replaced the dimmer switch and nothing! So I bought headlights and replaced them, still nothing....why dont I have low beams? how do I fix it? any help is appreciated!

If you have either highbeams or lowbeams, then the headlight switch will be ok. You reasoning about the dimmer switch is true. Get a testlight or voltmeter, and do some testing down at the dimmer switch. You should have 3 wires there. One is voltage coming in from the headlight switch (red/yellow wire). You should have voltage on this wire any time the headlight switch is on.

If you jump the red/yellow over to the red/black, the lowbeams should light.

If you jump the red/yellow over to the lightgreen/black, the highbeams should light.
