93 Explorer four wheel drive
I got some issues with a 93 Ford Explorer ,four wheel drive. It has electric push buton four wheel drive. When I pushthe button the 4X4 light always comes on but it does not always go into four wheel drive. Could the four wheel drive actuator motor be bad or am I doing something wrong? I wanted to get your opinions on this. Thanks

The 4x4 light is "feedback" from the shift motor. It doesn't come on until it thinks the shift motor has completed the shift, so the fact that the light comes on makes me think that the shift motor is working fine, and that your problem is in the hubs. 1st thing I'd do would be to determine whether the front driveshaft is being powered or not when in 4H.
Do you still have the stock auto hubs? What makes you think the 4x4 isn't working?

During the winter months i noticed the 4 wheel drive did not always engage. Now i can tell the four wheel drive did not engage when i am in loose gravel and also while making sharp turns. Yes it still has the original auto lock out hubs.
