My 390
Ben
Id also like to add that the gas in this truck might not be exactly old but its not current. As ive stated the previous owner used it to haul trash and didnt drive it more then a couple days out of the year. Is there any addiditive i could add or should i just add some newer gas. I start it every other day wheather im useing it or not.

Look between the choke and the carb, there is a white plastic lever there, which is the fast idle cam.
It may look like it's all in one piece, but if you wiggle it a bit, you will prolly see that it has snapped in two...a very common occurence.
Your profile says you have a 1975.

PLEASE......when asking questions, list all the pertinent info: Year, Model, Series and Engine Size.
Ford changed the 2V carb in 1975. Very few parts are the same as previous years, including the carburetor overhaul kit, fast idle cam, choke assembly, yadda yadda yadda.
it apart and clean it out inside and put it back together. :)
It ain't rocket science. ;)
When you get it back together and find out "that ain't it" or "it fixed it right
up" will -empower- you either way. The carb-kit will have an exploded view
and instructions that anyone that -wants to- can follow.
There was a "first time" for all of us that are into carburetors. :)
Your first time will be with a really cool old 4 barrel off a 390FE! :)
Mine was a Solex off a '63 convertible VW bug. :/
Yours is going to to be way-cooler! ;)
Just take it apart in a place so when you lose the little pieces, they won't
be hard to re-find. ;)
Spaying carburetor cleaner though the passages etc will be fun unless you
don't wear glasses. LOL :) That's the "best tool" is spray carb-cleaner and
another one is a small natural bristle (paint) brush with the bristles cut to
5/8" long or so. You'll need screwdrivers that fit the screws and long nose
pliers.
Anyone got any other suggestions for tools? :)
Have fun with it and your vehicle won't be down so long anyone's going to care.
Fiddle with the choke etc and figure out how it all works.

Heck, he even removes the throttle plates from the shaft...
You won't need to do that.
Anybody got a better URL? :)

ps- I like to spray silicone on (or smear with silicone grease) my carb gaskets
to keep them from sticking, making them re-usable over and over, since I like
to experiment with jetting and other modifications. :)
pps- carburetors are cool! :)
