cold weather checklist.
That is one of the nice things about using relays for circuit control, you can downsize the wires from you control points to the relay.
Then just run large wires from the battery to the relay and on to the device.
I am actually powering the relay trigger from the stock high beam light wire for both the high beam relay and the driving light relay.
I just added a second power source tot he double throw switch so you could turn the driving lights on without the head lights.
I know from my over the road days, I had driving lights mounted under the front bumper.
There were times in fog or heavy snow that I had better visability and less glare running driving lights and no headlights.
The driving lights were mounted well below the headlights and the front bumper blocked light from going up in front of me.
My driving lights were 24 volt landing lights back in those days.
If you have a NAPA close by, they should have a single pole double throw switch in stock.
Radio Shack would be another source.
To bad they were not stock items on the older vehicles, but from what I have seen I think the more modern ones do rely on many relays for high draw circuits.
If you can log on every so often it sure will cut down the seach area if we have to send out a search party.
New Mexico to Alaska .....might take a while to find you in such a small area.
Its only 3665 miles hopefully 4 long days weather permitting.
We lost a day in co ruined a tire while I was changing it noticed a water leak (waterpump) napa in castlerock had the pump so back on the road.
This was my first trip in a pickup so I hadn't factored in the many fuel stops and the load was a lot heavier than I had expected best mileage was 10.2 worst was 6.5 cheapest fuel was in castlerock co 195 a gal highest was fort saint johns bc 1.29 a litre.
The only other trouble on the trip was we lost the drivers door window in charlie lake bc and when idling motor would not run over 130 degrees and after I dropped the trailer in wasilla 130 was tops running empty.
Went to fairbanks installed a new block heater and thermostat and cured this problem also got a used window from interior towing 40 bucks not bad.
All in all was a good trip beautiful weather after we left wyoming behind coldest temps were at fairbanks never below 15 below.
