I have a 2005 f-250 fx4 edition. I currently have 285/70 R17 all-terrain tires on it. I am cuurently about to buy new tires and I would like to purchase a street tire instead of an off road one! Anyone have any suggestions before I buy?
Before I buy tires, I usually check out tirerack.com . Not for prices, but for recommendation. You also can see the survey results of them, and that can help to choose.
I'm currently using Firestone Destination A/T , and I'm happy with it. By the results it's a superior on/off road tire.... I wish it has a little less wear on the rear though, but I'm not going to give up the power for that...
I really liked the BFG all-terrains before I crossed the 400 hp mark. After that, the tires wore out really fast. The bigger lugs of my toyos don't flex as much and wear off the edges.
here they (315's) are with 17" wheels.
For a stock street tire I have had excellent luck with the factory installed Pirelli Scorpions. 22,000 miles on them and they still look like new.
Just in case you were wondering....I have 47,000 on my Scorpions; but it's getting time to replace 'em, treads are starting to look like racing slicks. I've debated with going back to the Pirellis...but I can only get 'em though my local dealership and they want $850 for 'em installed & taxes; but no road hazard coverage. I can get a set of BFG for $750 and that comes with road hazard, but I haven't see anyone say anything about the highway tread.....I run a pavement princess, don't need A/T treads.

Reason: Typo's
checked out the tire rack link last night... i intend on going to BFG A/T next go 'round (i know, you want highway tread), but am running firestone transforce A/T right now. the transforce don't have very good off road traction, but IMHO they've been a heckuva on-road tire. and they're not too terribly expensive. got ~33500 on them, and they'll probably go close to 50, maybe a little less due to the additional wear in the middle tread trying to get the air pressure right on them...
Actually the Firestone Destination A/T is much more a highway, than an off road tire. You could be in trouble on wet grass with it, but on highway, it's absolutely perfect.
