pcv valve
My truck's idle is surging noticibly. I have some questions about the pcv valve. my truck is 1996 f-250 5.8
is this it?

if this is it, a hose leads from it down to the valve cover, rather then the valve sitting right on the cover. however, this hose seems loose, and as you can see from the picture, it looks like it has popped out from the valve cover a bit.

Your PCV valve should be on the back of the passenger side valve cover under the intake plenum. Its hard to see but its there. The hose coming off of it goes aroung the back of the engine and connects to the vacuum tree on the top of the intake.

That should be the PCV valve in that first picture you linked to. If you need to replace it, a Motorcraft part is best because it is vehicle specific, not a one-size-fits-all part like you may find at a parts store.
