Im shootin this question out there a little premature seein how I havent looked at my transfer case very close yet but Im gonna put it out there anyway. Is there any way to put a pto on these ole trucks? Im thinkin dump bed and/or aux hydraulics for a wood splitter. I just think it would be neater than an electric pump setup. Whadaya think? Joe
Good question, I was wondering the same thing. Is your truck an auto trans? I've got a 8000 pound PTO drive winch I would like to put on mine. Mine is auto trans so my only option is put it on the transfer case. I havent looked yet to see if thats possible on this truck. My bud had a set up like that on an old Dodge years ago. Worked pretty good.
What transmission do you have? The PTO has to be mounted on it, as the transfer case has no place to mount it. I beleive the t18 has the cover that you remove to install a PTO. The question would be does anyone still make one that would fit.
surpluscenter.com sells a belt/clutch driven hydraulic pump that can be easily modified to bolt to an IDI, either in 2 pulley 1/2" v-belt, or 6 groove serpentine. The cost is about a 3rd less than buying a pto kit for a tranny.
That said, a 12V hydraulic power pack is cheaper, and much easier to install than either of those options above, and all that is needed for a dump bed, or winch setup.
Note: I've got nothing to do with surplus center. I buy a lot from them because it's a one stop shop, and I find great deals on items that I can't find most other places. They carry a lot of new parts, and used take-offs.
