Electrical Problems!!!

i recently bought a 84 f-150 from a guy who swapped engines from a straight 6 to a 302 and rewired a lot of the ignition wires. He cut out most of the wires so my chiltons is not really helping me try to get it rewired. I have had the truck running a handful of times and then the other day i removed a wire that was used as a ground for the alternator and i must have pulled a few more wires out. I re did the ground for the alternator, and thought i found the correct wires that cam unplugged, but now my alternator has a constant flow to the Field line even when ignition is switched off so it drains my battery and it has trouble starting even when hooked up to jumper cables. The battery wire is ran straight off the starter solenoid to a round black plug that has two other wires running into to it and the other side just has the blk/orange going straight to the battery connection on the alternator the two other wires going into that plug come from the voltage regulator .. if any on can help me figure this wiring snapfu back to how its suppose to be i would REALLY APPRECIATE IT. I have gone through with a multi-meter and tested some wires am i missing something here? thank you for your help

What ignition system are you running, and is your voltage regulator internal or external to the alternator? There are several possible combinations the previous owner could have used, all of which would affect the wiring. If your engine harness (which is a combination of ignition and regualtor harnesses) is all hacked up, you might be better off finding the correct harnesses for your particular ignition and voltage regulator setups form donor trucks at a boneyard. They will plug into the main vehicle harness.

The ignition system is a dura spark,i believe, and it is equiped with an external regulator. i'm not sure how badly hacked all the wires are or if i can even wire back the stock harnses. He took off all the emissions crap and it all his wiring is confusing the crap out of me!

With your truck being an 84, it's very possible the Duraspark system is not original. And if that's true, there may be now way to reconcile what you have. I still think my earlier recommendation of finding an 8 cylinder duraspark harness from an earlier truck is your best bet. Look for an 81 or 82.
