You need a scanner that can read live data to check the EBP sensor.

What do you mean by the truck accelerating by itself? If you're referring to the engine increasing the RPM's while it's sitting at idle when it's cold outside, then that is normal. Touch the brake pedal and the idle will drop back down for a short while, then increase again. It's designed to aid in keeping the truck within the operating temperature when cold.

The exhaust back pressure (EBP) sensor is a variable capacitance sensor that, when supplied with a 5-volt reference signal from the powertrain control module (PCM), produces a linear analog voltage signal that indicates pressure.

The EBP sensor's primary function is to measure exhaust back pressure so that the PCM can control the exhaust back pressure regulator (EPR) when needed.

According to Jody Tipton, the EBP sensor is used in the fueling table, so a clean tube and functioning sensor will give you better MPG's than a clogged tube or bad sensor. Many people here have reported mileage improvements after cleaning their tube.

The older trucks did get better mileage, but not that much better. According to the service manual, if you just unplug the ebp sensor, the computer will ignore it. I'd give that a try and see if your mileage improves.

Of course fuel restrictions or injector problems can also contribute to poor mileage. You'll have to work through this stuff and see what kind of results you get. Just don't forget to share what helps or fixes your problem with the rest of us.

are you saying the accelerating while it's parked right ??? does it almost sound like a jet engine ? what you're hearing is the engine running up idle to warm up - very normal in cold weather ..
