Does anyone know what year ford started putting the EGR valves on their engines?I have a 1967 f100 with a factory 240 6-cylinder in it (by vin#) it should be the org. engine. and it has a EGR valve on it under the carb.I didnt think they came out with them until 1972 or later? Also has anyone seen a truck have the custom cab and the ranger package trim package-up grade on it at the same time and still have the 6-cylinder engine and manual trans in it,i've always seen them with the v-8's in them but not with both trim packages on it?Thanks for any help on these questions.

Thanks for the info,I know i've been working on these trucks for years of all the ones i've had and my friends and i've never seen a I-6 with an EGR on it,I have seen the v-8 have them past 1970 but never pre-70's.

EGR valve were first installed in 1973. I think they were on all cars and the lighter duty trucks along with cat converters. The heaver GVW trucks didn't have them untill later.

ive never had to do emissions, i've always been exempt, but i'm sure theres some crazy places like california where someone mightve had to put that on there? if the trucks been around for 40 years theres alot of mods it can go through.

1973 is correct for the first year EGR valves were installed, but catalytic converters weren't installed on F Series trucks till 1975 (1977 on Econolines).

condo865: No 1972 or earlier car or truck came with an EGR valve, not a single one.

There was no retrofit kit to add EGR valves to previous years, either.

If you truck has the EGR system, one of two things occured: the engine has been swapped. Or...

These engines are prone to cracking manifolds, so it's possible the manifold was swapped off a newer truck, hooking up the EGR system in the process.

Measure the stroke of your engine, as there were no more 240's after 1974, so the swapped engine might be a 300.

240: 4.00" x 3.18" / 300: 4.00" x 3.98"

WELCOME TO CALIFORNIA!

I know all about what we in CA had to install as far as smog crap was concerned.

CA was the first state to have the PCV system factory installed (1961).

If you brought a 1961 or newer vehicle into the state, it had to have the PCV system added...but this did not pertain to all of the CA counties until later in the 1960's.

It got worse.

CA amended the law to include: ALL 1950 thru 1960 cars/light trucks! PCV Kits were available from parts stores to install them.

Then there was the infamous "Knock Device" that also had to be installed on all 1950/1966 cars, light trucks.

This unsightly device was spliced into the upper radiator hose, had vacuum lines running this way, that way...it retarded the spark, so the vehicles ran like chit!

Many peeps with older cars/trucks installed this kit, had the inspection done, then removed the crap till it was time for another inspection.

All this add on junk was later removed as CA doesn't smog test vehicles prior to 1976.

But wait...there's more. The CA Legislature has been kicking around the idea of changing the year smog tests are conducted.

This pertains to 1975 and older vehicles.

This means, if the law is passed, that all the crap has to go back on, and just like 1976 and later, there will be NO WAIVER for obsolete smog parts.

If parts aren't available new, you have to find good used parts and install them.

WELCOME TO CALIFORNIA!

btw: Ford didn't discriminate: They offered Custom Cab & Ranger packages with all engines, all transmissions.
