What would it take to put 20" tires on the EX? Is is worth it? I love the way the F-250 or F350 with 20" Tires!!
Well... First you need to get yourself some 20" WHEELS ... If you go the route of the "2008 SD 20 Club" (High1, Monsta & myself) and wish to mount 2008 SuperDuty 20"s on your X then you will need spacers.
You can get them here... wheelspacers.com
Do a search and you find a BUNCH of info regarding this issue... High1 has some nice pics of the spacers and how they mount... if I was on my homePC I'd post the links but... obviously I'm not.
You'll need to first take the written test, have us do a background check on you, then go through a hellish initiation before you submit your request (in triplicate) to join the "20 Club". Your response for acceptance or denial will be mailed to you within 4-5 months.
Other than that, you just need good hub-centric spacers. We've all gotten ours from the link in Bob's post.
Is it worth it?
What do you mean?
Personally, I like having one of the few Excursions in the world with OEM 20's. I think the spoke design matches the 05 grill, the wheels really fill up the wheel wells and give the truck have a nice stance. I'm not a huge fan of big wheels and don't think everything should be "Dubbed" but I do think the stock 16" wheels look silly on a truck so big now that I have the 20's.
Realistically speaking, they are heavier and increase unsprung weight. The wider tires increase rolling resistance. They will drop your mileage a bit. Functionally, they do nothing better than the stock 16's with OEM 265's except maybe more traction due to more tire surface.
