351m or 400???

351m or 400???

Could someone tell me the easiest way to figure out wat engine I have. The PO told me it was a 351 but according to my vin its a 400.

The only significant differences in these engines is the crankshaft and pistons. If you can figure out a clever way to measure the stroke without pulling the head then you can figure it out.

take out a spark plug and set a dowel on the piston. figure how far up and down it goes when you roll it over... if its 3.5" then its a 351m and if it's 4" then you have a 400.

If you take the oil pan off, you can find the casting number on the crank.
351M is 1K
400 is 5M
